Asymptomatic testing for residential care services – keeping everyone safe

To keep aged-care residents, employees and their families safe, we are rolling out a program of voluntary asymptomatic COVID-19 testing for all employees working in residential aged care services.

At Monash Health this covers employees working at Allambee Nursing Home, Chestnut Gardens, Eastwood Hostel, Mooraleigh Hostel and Yarraman Nursing Home.

“We are encouraging all our employees at these services to take part and help assure themselves, their family and the people they work with that they do not have COVID-19,” says Andrew Perta, General ManagerSpecialty Medicine, Cancer and Critical Care.

This state-wide Department of Health and Human Services campaign aims to rapidly identify undetected cases of COVID-19 and minimise its spread.

The plan is to test every employee every two weeks, even if they feel well, and don’t have any COVID-19 symptomsEmployees will not need to isolate while waiting for test results.

The program is free and covers all health care workers working within residential care including:

  • medical, nursing and allied health
  • personal care attendants
  • administration and management
  • cleaners and caterers
  • maintenance
  • security.
