Tower 5 at Casey Hospital is officially open! The ward was opened on Wednesday 30 June, attended by Martin Keogh. This General Medicine Ward has been developed as part of the Casey Hospital Expansion Project.
These changes to Casey Hospital have allowed us to provide higher acuity clinical service at the site. They also reduce the demand for transfers to our Clayton and Dandenong Hospital sites, meeting the needs of our local community.
The commissioning of the ward is a significant milestone for the team, as the initial opening was delayed by 12 months due to COVID-19. During this time, employees on Ward T5 were redeployed to other wards and now have been reunited.
Ward manager, Praveenkumar Pezhatholil, said, “although it was a very unusual and challenging time, the team kept the spirit alive”.
“I would like to thank all the employees who stayed with us and greatly appreciate the massive involvement of our management team to make this happen. We are excited and ready to provide high-quality care to our community in Melbourne’s outer south-east.”
Antanat Jayatunga, Administration Officer on Ward T5, said, “it means everything to the team. For some employees, the past year has been very challenging. However, knowing that we all be together on Ward T5 again encouraged us.”
“I think that this spirit our team has is very positive and reflects our values at Monash Health”.
The Ward admitted its first patient at 9.30 am on 30 June and, according to Praveenkumar, “opening day went smoothly and was an absolute demonstration of teamwork”.
Approved by Martin Keogh and Zoe Devenish.
