COVID-19 vaccination safety surveillance resource

We received lots of interest and questions about COVID-19 vaccination safety and the potential for long term side-effects at our Employee Forum on Tuesday 13 July. Professor Tony Korman, Director, Infectious Diseases spoke to the questions and shared the AusVaxSafety website.

Led by the National Centre for Immunisation Research and Surveillance (NCIRS) and funded by the Australian Government Department of Health, AusVaxSafety is a world-leading national vaccine safety system.

AusVaxSafety was established in 2014 to monitor adverse events following immunisation with influenza vaccines in children and now includes COVID-19 vaccination. AusVaxSafety has grown into a multi-component system, including:

  1. Active surveillance
  2. Clinical assessment network
  3. Hospital surveillance
  4. Safety investigation using linked data

You can learn more about vaccine safety including frequently updated COVID-19 vaccine safety surveillance data. As well as an article mentioned by Professor Korman that refers to the long term safety of COVID-19 vaccines.

This information has been added to the resources on the Employee Vaccination Hub ‘About’ page for future reference.
