The top teams in this year’s Walking Challenge have achieved over 1,000,000 steps so far. That’s 250,000 average steps per team member- almost 800km overall! This is an incredible team effort as we near the halfway point of the Challenge.
Team Kingston NW2 is currently one of the top teams. We spoke to team member Christian Gementiza, Registered Nurse on Northwest 2 Kingston Centre, to gain insight into how his team is achieving their step goals and keeping motivated.
Team Kingston NW2, which includes some of our great nursing team (including a husband and wife duo), attributes most of their steps to their active lifestyles, both at work and at home:
“We are getting our steps up during our shifts, as well as going for walks, running, going to the gym, and working out.
My wife and I are training for the Melbourne Marathon this October. I am also training for the Ironman this November, so I incorporate swimming, cycling, and running.”
The Challenge has been a great way for teams across Monash Health to stay connected during these past weeks. The Kingston NW2 team have been making an effort to motivate and support each other.
“We have a Facebook Messenger group that we use to communicate, support, and encourage each other.
We all feel great that we have been more active, as well as having fun participating in the Challenge together.”
For every team, the Walking Challenge has been a great opportunity to get active and stay connected with colleagues and teammates – and engage in some healthy competition too! Team Walk-A-Holics have created a leader board to showcase their achievements and encourage each other during the Challenge.

Be inspired and win great prizes
All teams have done an amazing job so far, but there are still two weeks to go and many great prizes on offer.
You could win an air fryer or a nutribullet! To go in the draw to win, submit photos you’ve taken during the Walking Challenge and a short story about how the Challenge has helped your wellbeing. Send your submission to Gaynor Henderson, Health and Wellbeing Coordinator (gaynor.henderson@monashhealth.org), by Wednesday 1 September.
