The United Nations has reported that frontline workers have seen an increase in family violence throughout the pandemic.
During lockdown periods, being restricted to the home can lead to victim survivors being further isolated and family violence increase. At Monash Health we need to be able to identify and appropriately respond to family violence. Sharing information with other agencies can help us to tailor our response.
New e-Learning package about Information Sharing Schemes available
The Information Sharing Schemes aim to facilitate the appropriate sharing of information between Information Sharing Entities, such as Monash Health, and other organisations such as family violence specialist agencies, the police or courts. The purpose of this is to help keep victim survivors safe and hold perpetrators accountable.
The new e-Learning package aims to promote the safety of victims and children, help health professionals understand information sharing and their responsibilities under these new Schemes. You can access this training here.
More information about the Schemes is available on the intranet. There is also a ‘Family violence and child information sharing procedure’ available on PROMPT.
If you need more information on the Information Sharing Schemes, you can contact the family violence team on 0484 674 894 or by email.
Family violence training continues online
A strong commitment to family violence training has continued over the past year. Almost 2,000 clinicians and managers have been trained to identify and respond to the red flags they observe.
In the last financial year, the family violence team has facilitated the training of 876 managers and 864 clinicians, with new training options now available. The team has made this training available online on LATTE.
The clinical education focuses on identifying and responding to a patient/client experiencing family violence and covers the role of health professionals, risk factors, and support options.
There is an education package for managers to assist them by outlining information and support options available for Monash Health employees. You can find out more here.
