Walk for Monash Children’s Hospital breaks through target

Participant fundraisers have exceeded the initial target of $100,000 raised in the virtual Winter Walk for Monash Children’s Hospital which ran from 21-30 August.

As at 11.59pm on Monday 30 August participants had raised a fabulous $125,005 and stepped 27.5 million steps.

Just under 1000 people registered to participate in the Winter Walk, including more than 360 Monash Health employees. The teams hit the pavements in their neighbourhoods with the aim of taking 10,000 steps per day over the ten days of the challenge, while raising funds for MCH.

Ron Fairchild, Director of the Monash Health Foundation, said that this year’s virtual Winter Walk has raised funds to help purchase important equipment.

“I’m delighted that MCH will be able to purchase specialised physiotherapy chairs that help children who are challenged walking due to illness or injury, gain muscle strength and movement,” Ron said.

“Additional funds raised will go towards specialist diagnostic equipment to help change young lives,” he said.  “And it’s not too late to contribute, with funds accepted over the next few days.”

“Special thanks to Maxxia for their support of the Walk.”
