The Victorian Government has announced that public health employees will be entitled to time off without loss of pay to receive their COVID-19 vaccination, in an effort to encourage all employees to get vaccinated.
Where employees are required to be vaccinated because of a public health order or at the direction of Monash Health due to the nature of their work/role such as residential aged care workers, they are entitled to:
- Time off without loss of pay to travel to and from a vaccination centre (if required to travel away from your usual place of work) and be vaccinated
- If it is not practical or possible to receive the vaccination in paid time, employees may receive up to four hours’ pay on a case by case basis (only available to those required to be vaccinated either by Monash Health or public health order)
- Long term casual employees who have been working with Monash Health on a regular basis and who are anticipated to continue to be employed on this basis may have their attendance at a vaccination site facilitated within ordinary hours and without loss of pay.
For all other employees (including long term casual employees), Monash Health will facilitate your attendance at a vaccination site (including reasonable travel time) by providing access to paid time off for up to four hours or an equivalent payment at your base rate of pay to attend a vaccination appointment.
If employees meet the requirements to be eligible for this leave, managers will be required to enter the code Special Pd LVE – COVID VAC in Kronos. See the Leave types flow chart here more information.
Where vaccinations are, or have been, provided by Monash Health onsite, time release will only be provided to attend that onsite service and the paid time off for up to four hours (or equivalent payment) does not apply.
Adverse Event Following Immunisation (AEFI)
Eligibility for paid special leave where an employee experiences an adverse event following immunisation with the COVID-19 vaccine has been expanded. The following employees may now be eligible for paid special leave including:
- Employees who are subject to a mandatory COVID-19 vaccination requirement
- Casual employees who have been employed on a regular and systematic basis for at least three months and have an expectation of continuing employment on a regular and systematic basis.
