From Monday 6 December, a new medical oncology service will commence at Monash Medical Centre (MMC), Clayton.
This new service will enable medical oncology patients at Monash Medical Centre to receive timely access to specialised assessment and treatment under the care of a Medical Oncologist.
With Senior Medical Staff (SMS) and Junior Medical Staff (JMS) recruited to provide speciality unit coverage for medical oncology patients, the new medical oncology service will include a full consult service to Monash Medical Centre, including to the ED and ICU.
The new medical oncology inpatient bed card will be commissioned on Ward 44, and the admission criteria for Monash Medical Centre medical oncology will be as follows:
- Unstable oncology patients
- Patients requiring escalation of care (HDU / ICU)
- Patients requiring surgical/interventional management not available at Moorabbin
As the home to Monash Cancer Centre, Moorabbin will remain the primary service for inpatient medical oncology, and all other medical oncology admissions will continue to be streamed to Moorabbin Hospital.
