When nurses and midwives are witnessing medication, infusion, and some procedure workflows within the EMR, they will now be prompted to Tap to Witness with their ID card to complete the witnessing workflow.
While you can continue entering your IT password to witness in the EMR, Tap to Witness greatly reduces witnessing documentation times. At this stage, Tap to Witness is only available to nurses and midwives, including all nurses and midwives working in fixed-term, permanent and Pool positions.
Tap to Witness is not available to Casual Bank or Agency employees who will continue to enter their IT password to witness in the EMR.

The documentation workflows affected include:
- Medication administration including infusions (for specific groups of medication as per procedures)
- Blood product administration
- Expressed breast milk administration
- Hospital in the Home medication supply
- Patient controlled analgesia handover
- Epidural tip removal confirmation
Please remember your ID card is your electronic signature in the EMR. Sharing it is akin to sharing your banking pin number or phone passcode, and is against Monash Health policy and professional code of conduct.
Please refer to the Tap to Witness workflow video for further details.
