What leave am I entitled to if I get COVID-19 after isolating as a close contact?
If you test positive for COVID-19 after you have already been isolating and receiving paid special leave as a close contact, from the date you test positive for COVID-19 it is deemed that a new 7 day isolation period has commenced in relation to your status as a confirmed positive case.
This means if you have already been isolating and receiving special leave as a close contact for 3 days before you test positive for COVID-19, you will be able to access paid special leave for your required 7 day isolation period (for a total of 10 days’ paid special leave) and then you will need to take accrued personal leave or other leave entitlements if you are still unwell after that period.
What if I’m on annual leave, personal leave or long service leave and I’m required to isolate as a close contact?
If you are on a period of paid leave including annual leave, personal leave or long service leave of up to four weeks’ duration when you are identified as a close contact and required to isolate, you will be entitled to access paid special leave for the continuous 7 day isolation period.
Should you wish to return to work during that period under the exemption for close contacts or work from home, please speak to your manager and the Monash Health Employee Hotline in the first instance.
Following the 7 day isolation period you would revert to being paid your already scheduled paid leave entitlements or otherwise return to work. If you are on a period of paid leave that is more than four weeks’ duration, you will not be able to convert your paid leave to paid special leave.
Please note, paid special leave will not apply where you have returned from overseas travel.
