Important updates to the EMR

For our clinicians, please review four important updates implemented on the EMR this month.

New SCOVID Alert

The ‘SCOVID Low Risk’ and ‘SCOVID Probable’’ clinical alerts have been replaced by a single ‘SCOVID’ alert to align with the latest guidelines in the COVID-19 Inpatient Admission Procedure

While new patients will display the new SCOVID alert, existing patients with COVID alerts will still show the SCOVID Low Risk and SCOVID Probable alerts until these alerts are resolved.

Once the SCOVID alert is selected it can be resolved in a variety of ways

  • The EMR system will inactivate the SCOVID alert and add a COVID alert if a positive PCR result is returned
  • Users can manually resolve or inactivate the SCOVID alert
  • The EMR system will automatically resolve the SCOVID alert if it has not been changed to the ‘COVID-19 known’ alert or manually resolved after 30 days

See the Documenting and Updating a COVID-19 Alert QRG  for further details on this update.

Mental Health Compulsory Orders are now Completed in the EMR for inpatient Units and Emergency Departments

Mental Health Compulsory orders are now to be completed in the EMR for inpatient units and Emergency Departments when new compulsory orders are placed. The Mental Health Compulsory Orders are now available as PowerForms located within the AdHoc folder in the EMR. The most recent compulsory order placed in the EMR is found within the Documents section of the EMR and can be printed for the patient or transfer of care.

Existing compulsory orders are to remain on the paper form located in the patient’s paper file. Compulsory orders made in the community will also remain on paper and are not to be transcribed into the EMR.

The ‘Mental Health Act – Info in Patient Record’ Alert must be placed at the same time as the compulsory order to describe what the Compulsory Order is for and where it is located. This alert must be kept up to date contemporaneously with any changes made to compulsory orders.
