What if one decision you made could transform the lives of 7 or more people?
From 24 – 31 July, DonateLife Week recognises and raises awareness about the life-saving importance of organ and tissue donation.
In Australia, more than 1,750 people are on the waitlist for a life-saving transplant, with an additional 13,000 people on dialysis who could achieve an improved quality of life if they received a kidney transplant.
Organ and tissue donation makes a real difference in the lives of hundreds of Australians each year, with one donor being able to save the lives of up to 7 people.
In 2021, 1,174 people received a life-changing transplant thanks to the generosity of 421 deceased organ donors and their families.
This week reminds us to talk with our loved ones about organ donation and register to become an organ and tissue donor. Becoming an organ donor means you are not only helping several people with life-threatening conditions, but you are also giving them the gift of life.
It only takes one minute to register as a donor – check if you are registered or register today if you haven’t already.
At Monash Health, we have a dedicated DonateLife team, who work to ensure the educational and operational aspects of donation are coordinated across the organisation.
This week the DonateLife team honour the donors and their families who have helped save many people’s lives because of their life-saving gift. The team would also like to acknowledge and thank the dedicated health care workers who care for these patients and their families. Without their ongoing commitment to the program, donation just wouldn’t be possible.
