Last week our Centre for Development Disability Health (CDDH) launched the online hub and directory service, My Lived iD, a website designed to provide people with intellectual disabilities access to the information, resources and healthcare services they need to support their mental health and wellbeing.
Setting it apart from other resources, My Lived iD consolidates consistent and trustworthy information in one place, in a format that is accessible and easy to navigate. It’s also been built in direct consultation and involvement with stakeholders from our disability community, ensuring that the project achieved the right outcomes.
Addressing the gap in accessible information, resources and mental health services for Australians with disabilities, Reece Adams, Head of the Centre for Development Disability at Monash Health says that My Lived iD is the first online resource to provide a “one-stop-shop”.
“Before My Lived ID, there simply wasn’t anything out there people could trust or easily access that specifically catered for their needs. People with an intellectual disability can really struggle when it comes to navigating and researching information and services about taking care of their mental health.”
Involvement from the disability community was essential in the development of My Lived iD. The guiding principle of “nothing about us, without us” saw a co-design process involving three separate workshops to ensure the site was easy to navigate and very user-friendly.
Community consultation also ensured the site met its primary objectives of:
- informing people with intellectual disabilities, their family and carers, professionals and the wider community about intellectual disabilities as well as issues surrounding mental health.
- providing educational resources to help people with intellectual disabilities to learn, grow and thrive, as well as help their family and carers, professionals and the wider community to better understand, engage with and support them.
- connecting people with intellectual disabilities with professional services and mental health programs to support their mental health and wellbeing.
Demonstrating its accessibility and ease of navigation, you can watch community consultant, Luke Nelson, step you through some features of the site.
