We are celebrating International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia, Interphobia & Transphobia (IDAHOBIT) on 17 May.
IDAHOBIT is a day of significance for the LGBTQIA+ community. On 17 May 1990, the World Health Organisation (WHO) removed homosexuality from the Classification of Diseases. While it is an important opportunity to celebrate LGBTQIA+ people globally, it is also an opportunity to raise awareness of the work still needed to combat discrimination.
One of the LGBTQIA+ subcommittee’s key actions is to update some policies and procedures to ensure they are inclusive. They are currently finalising updates to:
- Gender Equity Policy
- Name Change Procedure
- Transition Plan Guidelines
- Support for Sex, Gender Diverse Employees
As part of Monash Healths Equity and Inclusion Plan, we are committed to removing barriers that impact our patients, consumers, employees, volunteers, community, and visitors from being fully included in healthcare. We aim to create a safe and supportive environment that embraces everyone’s skills, perspectives, and experiences. We all have a role to play in contributing to a culture of inclusiveness.
On Wednesday 17 May at 2pm we invite you to join us for a panel discussion with our colleagues at Monash Health. Together, we will explore what it means to be an ally and what support in the workplace looks like. This event coincides with the International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia, Interphobia & Transphobia (IDAHOBIT), reminding us of the significance of our collective efforts.
