#WorldBreastfeedingWeek

Lactation Consultants from our Monash Health Breastfeeding Services are providing education to raise awareness during World Breastfeeding Week (1 to 7 August 2023).

Monash Health has a Breastfeeding Policy and employs dedicated Lactation Consultants across all four maternity sites, including two GPs who specialise in Breastfeeding Medicine, to support women and their families achieve their breastfeeding goals. This year, Monash Health has seen the addition of Sandringham Hospital Maternity and Newborn to our services.

World Breastfeeding Week is a global campaign run each year by the World Alliance for Breastfeeding Action (WABA) to protect, promote and support breastfeeding. World Breastfeeding Week is held in the first week of August every year, supported by WHO, UNICEF and many Ministries of Health and civil society partners.

This year’s campaign is “Enabling Breastfeeding: Making a difference for working parents” and the key message is “Let’s make breastfeeding and work, work!”

That means that women should not have to choose between their work and breastfeeding their children.

The World Health Organisation will use the week to champion best practices for workplace-related breastfeeding support in different countries, across different contract types and sectors, and to promote actions that can be taken to help ensure breastfeeding works for all women who work, wherever they work.

Monash Health supports employees in their feeding choices through paid maternity leave, dedicated employee expressing rooms and allocated breaks for breastfeeding and expressing.

Our Breastfeeding Policy can be found on PROMPT. You can find out more about World Breastfeeding Week here.
