Movement is Medicine

Monday 25 May marks the beginning of Exercise Right week – an awareness campaign led by Exercise and Sports Science Australia (ESSA), the professional body for exercise physiologists.

The Week is designed to help educate Australians about the importance of exercise for general health, as well as for the prevention and management of a range of chronic conditions and injuries.

It shows how everyone can find the “right” exercise to suit their needs. The theme for this year is “Movement is Medicine” – a topic which is particularly relevant in the current COVID-19 landscape. It’s now more important than ever to use physical activity to support our immune system and our mental health.

Take time each day for your basic needs so that you are in a better position to stay well and build resilience.

There is an extensive array of resources available to Monash Health employees, accessible via ESSA or Monash Health – see links below. We have 27 Exercise Physiologists employed across Monash Health, working in Sub Acute, Community and Mental Health.  They work in clinical areas ranging from community paediatric, youth and adults, adult inpatients and mental health – both in and outpatients. Exercise Right Week runs 25-31 May.
