New advanced emergency training underway for birth suite teams

Mums and newborns at Monash Health are benefiting from a new emergency training program for our birth suite teams.

The Victorian Managed Insurance Authority (VMIA)’s Incentivising Better Patient Safety program is a regular simulation training exercise undertaken by birth suite team members, including midwives and obstetricians. The simulations are extremely realistic and help prepare our teams for a wide range of complications that could occur in the birth suite, including breech births.

“This is nothing like online training, this feels real,” said Andrea Rindt, General Manager of Monash Women’s and Newborn.

A minimum 80% training rate attracts a discount on Monash Health’s obstetrics insurance premiums from VMIA, while helping to improve patient outcomes.

“More important than the money is that the outcomes and the care that we’re providing are improved as a result of this training,” Andrea said.

Well done to our birth suite teams for regularly undertaking these training exercises.
