Throughout the month of May, the Hudson Institute of Medical Research and Monash Health will be partnering to deliver free blood pressure checks at Monash Medical Centre. May Measurement Month is a worldwide initiative dedicated to raising awareness about the dangers of high blood pressure and the importance of regular checks.
High blood pressure is the number 1 contributing risk factor for global death and can cause strokes, heart attacks and other cardiovascular complications – over 10 million lives are lost each year around the world due to high blood pressure. For most people, there are no warning signs for high blood pressure, which is why it’s so important to get it checked regularly
The free blood pressure checks will be available for patients, their families, community members and Monash Health and Hudson Institute employees
The checks, provided by medical students, are not only key in picking up potential heart health issues, but also provide a great training opportunity for medical students in identifying dangerous blood pressure readings
Free blood pressure checks will be available in the main entrance of Monash Medical Centre from 10am – 2pm, Monday – Friday between Wednesday 1 – Friday 31 May.
