Monash midwives making birth kits for developing countries

On Monday 6th May the midwives from Monash Women’s came together to celebrate International Day of the Midwife.

This is a day of celebration which includes some education and the opportunity to hear from some of our consumers about the care they received and the lessons we can gain to improve our practice and care. We also heard from the Nurses and Midwives Health Program and the need to take care of ourselves and how to get help if it all gets overwhelming.

This year we also made birthing kits for developing countries. These include a sheet of plastic for the women to lay on to provide a clean surface, a piece of soap for hand-washing, a pair of gloves, 3 pieces of string for tying off the cord and a blade to cut the cord.
