Transforming Care Forum – Voluntary Assisted Dying

The upcoming Transforming Care Forum will feature key information on the soon-to-be-introduced Voluntary Assisted Dying.

The event, which will be held on Tuesday 21 May at Monash Medical Centre, will cover aspects including:

  • The Voluntary Assisted Dying Act (2017)
  • When the legislation comes into effect
  • Eligibility criteria
  • Roles of health practitioners
  • Conscientious objection
  • Process for escalation of end-of-life care discussion

The Voluntary Assisted Dying Act (2017) was passed by the Victorian Parliament on 29 November 2017.

The Act will commence operation on 19 June 2019.

The Act followed two years of consultation and development, and reflects a balance between giving people choices at the end of their life and ensuring community safety.

The Transforming Care Program aims to establish whole-of-hospital shared principles, processes and systems that underpin the delivery of quality and timely care to our community.
