Flag raised for NAIDOC Week 2019

Many Monash Health staff accepted an invitation to join members of our Aboriginal community on Monday 1 July at Dandenong and District Aborigines Cooperative’s Dandenong site to witness the ceremonial raising of a flag to mark the start of NAIDOC Week.

NAIDOC originally stood for ‘National Aborigines and Islanders Day Observance Committee’, and now signifies a week in which events are held across Australia to celebrate the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

This year’s theme is “VOICE. TREATY. TRUTH.” and highlights fact that the Indigenous voice of this country is over 65,000 plus years old.

At Monash our Equity and Inclusion Strategy commits to the journey of working together with our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples to promote reconciliation.
