In line with Monash Health’s strategic goal of managing our resources wisely and sustainably – the Clayton Pharmacy Department will be removing plastic bags and moving towards more environmentally-friendly options.
Monash Health Pharmacies currently use eight different types of plastic bags for all different purposes, equating to approximately 326,500 plastic bags per annum, at a cost of $11,320.
We aim to reduce this huge number to zero by asking patients to bring their own re-usable bags, using vinyl bags for ward deliveries and utilising paper bags where needed, decreasing our contribution to landfill and positively impacting our environment. This pilot will be running at our Clayton Pharmacy, with the aim to replicate the processes at all Monash Health, and Victorian Hospital Pharmacy sites in the future.
