Congratulations to Dr Arunaz Kumar, academic gynaecologist and obstetrician at Monash Health, for being awarded Simulation Australasia’s 2019 Simulation Achievement Award. The award is for her significant contribution to the advancement of modelling and simulation in Australia and New Zealand over the last decade.
Dr Kumar runs simulation workshops including Women’s Health Interprofessional Learning by Simulation (WHIPLS), Women’s Health Emergency Workshop and Home Birth in-situ simulation workshop at Monash Health. As a long-term advocate for simulation programs, Dr Kumar’s WHIPLS program is now an integral part of Monash University’s undergraduate curriculum, including at the Malaysia campus.
Dr Kumar also runs simulation workshops overseas in low and middle-income countries and leads the ONE-Sim (Obstetric and Neonatal Emergency Simulation) program on maternal and newborn skills for health professionals and students in India and various other countries.
Not only does Dr Kumar use simulation as a method to up-skill health professionals, she believes it is a great tool to help those early in their careers embed their working relationships with interprofessional members of the team.
