Receiving new dentures is an exciting time that helps an individual restore their natural smile. But making dentures is lengthy and requires multiple appointments. For clients where English is not their first language, improving oral health literacy is important to ensure they understand the process. Recently Monash Health Dental Services launched a denture video for Dari-speaking clients.
Dari is one of two official languages in Afghanistan, and is commonly spoken by our clients. The video prepares clients for their denture appointments and was developed by collecting data on the barriers faced in providing dentures for people from non-English speaking backgrounds. Seventeen Dari-speaking clients at their first denture appointment, along with Monash Health community staff, attended the official launch.
As one client commented: “It has helped me prepare for my coming appointments, I now have an idea of the process involved”.
