Last year we launched the 2018-2023 Equity and Inclusion Strategy, acknowledging our commitment and plan to create an inclusive environment and experience for our community. The Strategy has five focus areas: Aboriginal Health and Employment, Cultural and Linguistic Diversity (CALD), Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Intersex (LGBTI), Disability and Gender. Each subcommittee has begun implementing key actions to embed equity and inclusion in everyday life at Monash Health.
To celebrate one year since the Strategy was launched, over the coming weeks, we will introduce you to the Monash Health Board members who champion each subcommittee.
Our Board Chair Dipak Sanghvi is the champion for the LGBTI subcommittee. The subcommittee’s vision is to lead the way in respecting, celebrating and warmly welcoming people of every gender, gender identity, intersex variation and sexual orientation.
In 2019, The LGBTI subcommittee advised and supported the key actions in the Strategy and completed a needs analysis for LGBTI training through surveying Monash Health employees and have ensured that patient forms are inclusive of LGBTI appropriate language. Amongst communications and activities to promote awareness, in May 2019 the subcommittee organised an event to celebrate IDAHOBIT (International Day Against Homophobia, Biophobia, Interphobia and Transphobia) with an open Q&A session and a screening of ‘The Coming Out Ball’.
We are committed to removing all barriers that may prevent our consumers, employees, volunteers and community from being fully included in their healthcare.
