National Recycling Week 2019

This week is National Recycling Week across Australia, a week dedicated to bringing a national focus to the environmental benefits of recycling. Throughout 2018 and 2019 Monash Health produced approximately 5,417,603kg of waste. From this nearly 1,260,000kg was recycled (about 25%).

At Monash Health we have several recycling streams which target different types of waste. These streams include commingled recycling, clean paper, surgical blue wrap (Kimguard), batteries, metal instruments, polyvinyl, chloride and electronic waste.

In 2018 and 2019 we:

  • Diverted 1,971kg of Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC) from landfill through our PVC recycling program.
  • Diverted 5,597kg of electronics from landfill through our Electronic Waste Recycling Program.
  • Diverted 3,609kg of single-use metal instruments from landfill through our Metal Instruments Recycling Program
Congratulations to everyone involved in these immense achievements. Please remember to consider avoiding, reducing or reusing your resources first. If none of these things can be done, then choose to recycle.
