Bake sale for Cleft Awareness

Last week, our Monash Children’s Hospital raised over $1,000 with by hosting a bake sale to raise awareness of cleft lip and palate.

The bake sale was arranged by the cleft team at Monash Children’s Hospital and CleftPALs Victoria to coincide with cleft awareness week. CleftPALs is a volunteer organisation that provides support to cleft affected families. They also act as a coordinator for Monash Children’s cleft team.

One in every 700 children is born with cleft lip and/or palate. Cleft lip is a condition that occurs in babies where the top lip fails to develop properly while in the womb, whereas cleft palate is a gap in the roof of a child’s mouth.

During the bake sale, Peters Ice Cream made a generous donation and Medela donated a brand new double express pump valued at $500. By the end of the day, the bake sale had raised $1,200.

Congratulations to all staff that helped in this huge achievement.
