To celebrate International Day of People with Disability this week we introduce you to the board champions for the Disability subcommittee Emeritus Professor Hatem Salem AM and Jane Bell.
The subcommittee’s vision is to provide an inclusive environment for people of all abilities that incorporates physical access, including wayfinding and access to communication.
In 2019 the Disability subcommittee advised and supported the key actions in the strategy by completing a survey of patients, visitors and employees with disabilities to ensure barriers to access, care and employment are identified and can therefore be continuously addressed. The subcommittee also implemented coding for people with disabilities to ensure that tracking of patient journeys, patient experience, health outcomes and service usage of people with a disability improves.
On Tuesday 3 December as part of International Day of People with Disability an event will be held at Monash Medical Centre Clayton with a guest choir. We encourage everyone to come along join in the celebration.
We are committed to removing all barriers that may prevent our consumers, employees, volunteers and community from being fully included in their healthcare. If you are interested in joining this subcommittee, please email: Equity&Inclusion@monashhealth.org
