Jo McKinstry, Senior Dietitian at Dandenong Hospital recently completed the Future System Leaders program. The program is an initiative of Safer Care Victoria and delivered in partnership with the University of Melbourne. It aims to build the leadership capabilities required to lead workplace cultures, that embrace innovation and drive quality and safety improvement. The program focuses on leading self, leading systems, and leading teams. Participants are required to undertake an Action Learning Project that has an emphasis on safe, effective or person centred care.
Jo’s project focused on the development of an evidence-based workshop to improve dietitians’ knowledge and skills utilising a patient-centred approach to develop and document SMART goals for their patients in the inpatient setting. Jo found the program a valuable learning experience, and an opportunity to learn from the other 24 participants who came from a wide range of roles and networks within the Victorian healthcare system.
