We were delighted to collaborate with Ambulance Victoria this morning to spread the word about their GoodSAM app to over 100 of our team members at Monash Medical Centre.
Every week, 384 Australians suffer a cardiac arrest but only 35 survive. We know that it can take just three minutes for brain damage to occur without CPR after a cardiac arrest, making immediate CPR intervention vital in improving the outcome for a patient.
Ambulance Victoria’s GoodSAM app allows Australians to register to be notified of nearby cardiac arrests reported to 000, allowing them to attend the scene and administer life-saving CPR while an ambulance is in transit.
In just over a year, GoodSAM members have already saved 25 Victorian lives. Professor Stephen Nicholls, Director of Monash Heart, was thrilled to represent Monash Health’s support for this initiative by encouraging our team members to become GoodSAMs and help increase the number of lives saved.
“This is a fantastic initiative. We certainly understand the importance of rapid resuscitation of patients in cardiac arrest, it’s the best chance for them to have the best outcomes,” he said.
