Bushfire update – making pre-tax donations and air quality

The cooler weather over the last couple of days comes as welcome relief, but we know that the bushfire season is not yet over and recovery will take many months.

The Premier Daniel Andrews announced the establishment of the Victorian Bushfire Appeal, with every dollar raised going to those in need.   If you would like to help by donating, Monash Health employees can now make pre-tax donations to the Appeal.  The deduction authority form can be found here.

Smoke and air quality

Despite the storm earlier in the week clearing the air a little, the smoke haze returned and reduced air quality is expected to continue for weeks to come. The best advice is if you see or smell smoke outside, you should stay inside as much as practical, if it is safe to do so.

If you are at work and experience wheezing, chest tightness and difficulty breathing, please seek assistance immediately by following the local Code protocols. If you or someone you know is outside Monash Health and experiences wheezing, chest tightness and difficulty breathing, call Triple Zero (000).

Helping injured wildlife

We have had a wonderful response across our sites to identify and collect suitable part-used stock and medical supplies that would otherwise be discarded, to help injured and sick wildlife. Each Monash Health campus has a drop-off point for these supplies. You can find out more here or contact Kym Forrest, acting Chief Operating Officer or Dr Anjali Dhulia, Chief Medical Officer for any queries.

Finally today, I would like to again say thank you. The day-to-day work we do at Monash Health already makes a significant contribution to helping those affected by the bushfires. I will continue to keep you updated as the situation changes but, as always, your thoughts and contributions are always welcome.

Chief Executive
