Work is underway to develop a new space for Infusion Services at Monash Medical Centre.
The new physical space is under construction now on Level 2 of Monash Medical Centre, opposite pharmacy. Once completed in mid-2020, the new unit will feature more space, improved facilities, and easier access for employees and patients.
The new unit will bring together the existing Medical Therapy Unit (currently on Level 2) and the Infusion Centre (currently on Level 5), and two haemotology-oncology treatment chairs into a new shared environment. The unit will consist of 30 chairs and will provide for an increase to current capacity to meet the increasing demand for infusion services.
Margaret Harley, Director of Clinical Operations for Specialty Medicine, said the new environment would be an overwhelmingly positive development for patients.
“The project will provide an improved physical space, and ensure that our skilled clinicians provide comprehensive care in one co-located area,” Ms Harley said.
“A Consumer Advisory Group developed in 2019 has been assisting planning for the new unit to ensure patients and families are engaged and involved in this important project.”
The new unit will be larger, provide additional consulting spaces, ensure enhanced privacy, and allow for more flexibility in treating different patient groups.
Some disruption is expected, with every effort being made to reduce noise and disruption for nearby areas, employees, patients, and visitors.
