Chief Executive Update: 25 January PM

A press conference has been held by the Minister for Health and the Acting Chief Health Officer advising the community that Monash Medical Centre is currently caring for Victoria’s first patient with a Coronavirus 2019-nCoV infection.

This patient is being cared for and isolated in line with DHHS guidelines, and our well-established processes for managing patients in respiratory isolation.

We are well placed to diagnose, care for and isolate patients should they arrive with the disease. Our Emergency Department teams have a clear process to follow as part of triage and registration to identify suspected cases.

We anticipate an increase in public interest, including media enquiries. It is important that you direct any media enquiries to our media team via our Media Hotline: 9594 7722. Please do not attempt to respond to journalists. No patient or clinical information should be provided under any circumstances.

We remain in close contact with the Department of Health and Human Services, who are working closely with the Australian Government and other states and territories to ensure Victoria is prepared for any cases which may occur here.

I will continue to keep you updated as more information becomes available.

Andrew Stripp
Chief Executive
