Dr Sabar Rustomjee recognised in Australia Day Honours

Congratulations to Dr Sabar Rustomjee for being awarded a Member of the Order of Australia (AM) in the 2020 Australia Day Honours, for significant service to psychotherapy and community health.

Sabar joined Monash Health as a psychiatrist in 1986, where her work included liaison psychiatry for patients in the renal and breast cancer units. Known for her warm and compassionate approach to patient care, Sabar helped countless patients in recovering from mental health challenges.

In her extensive career, Sabar also had a keen interest in research and education, travelling the world to give lectures on group and individual psychotherapy and publishing many articles on these topics. In 2000, Sabar was elected President of the International Association of Group Psychotherapy and has remained on the Board of Directors to this day.

While she has since retired, Sabar continues to contribute to psychiatry in many ways. She will soon publish a book about analytic psychotherapy.

Please join us in congratulating Sabar on her wonderful contribution not only to Monash Health, but also to the field of psychiatry globally.
