Ruth Peters works as an enrolled nurse at our Chestnut Gardens Aged Care facility in the Avenue Unit, and recently made a submission to the Victorian Healthcare Association ‘Celebrating aged care -why I love my job campaign’. Her submission was selected and she won a morning tea valued at up to $500 for her work place. Associate Professor Denise Heinjus , Executive Director Nursing Services from Melbourne Health came to Chestnut Gardens Aged Care on Friday 28 February to present Ruth with her certificate and prize.
During the certificate presentation, Denise said the Public Sector Residential Leadership Committee are keen to promote the public Residential Service and the great care being provided. She pointed out they value stories from people working in Aged Care. Ruth’s passion in Aged Care and the stories she told about herself and her team are encouraging and heart-warming.
In her acceptance speech, Ruth said since the announcement of the Royal Commission investigation into Aged Care, there has had a lot of negative publicity related to aged care. This prompted her to take part in the campaign because she would like to celebrate and highlight the many positive aspects in Aged Care. Ruth also wants people to know the great work her and her colleagues are doing every day. She loves coming to work, work with a supportive team and provide quality care to care recipients.
Congratulations Ruth and the Avenue team.
