Message from the Chief Executive

Monash Health is currently treating seven COVID-19 positive patients; four at Monash Medical Centre (one in ICU), and three at Dandenong Hospital (one in ICU). Sadly, two people being treated at Monash Health with COVID-19 have passed away since my last update, and our deepest sympathies are with the families and friends of these patients.  And again thank you to those involved in their care.

Our screening clinics have tested 6,284 people to date.

These are the important updates for today.

Casey Hospital update

As part of a wider COVID-19 response announced by the State Government, yesterday we began opening beds and wards in Casey Hospital’s new tower facility. This project has been many years in the making, and while the opening has taken place without fanfare, we are nonetheless very proud of the work undertaken to enable the opening and serve our growing population.

The changes mean we will ultimately be able to provide a higher acuity clinical service at the Casey Hospital site, reduce the need for transfers to our Clayton and Dandenong Hospital sites and best meet the needs of our local community, including a 12-bed Intensive Care Unit. Read more about the specific changes here.

Thank you to everyone who has been involved in this work.

Employee forums

We will run weekly forums to help you plan your week and ensure you stay up-to-date with our operational response to COVID-19. These forums will continue to be held via Webex.  Today’s all employee forum will be at 2pm. Please ensure you and members of your team are able to attend.

Personal Protective Equipment Training

Please continue to make Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) training a priority.

COVID-19 calls for different tiers of PPE, depending on the clinical activity you are undertaking, which may differ from the practice pre-COVID-19. Now is the time to know when and what type of PPE to use to protect yourself, your colleagues and your patients. Remember to complete the online training on Latte and the face-to-face sessions offered across sites.

For the latest advice and to book into a training session, visit the COVID-19 website ‘protecting yourself and others’ page.

Accommodation for health workers required to self-isolate

As announced by the State Government today, hospital workers will receive free accommodation if they need to self-isolate. The Government announcement can be found here. Please call the Monash Health employee hotline, on 9594 5815, if you have additional needs for accommodation support.

A message from the Governor of Victoria

Her Excellency the Hon. Linda Dessau AC, Governor of Victoria, has recorded a message of thanks to health workers, on the front line and behind the scenes:

Thank you again for the important work you are undertaking for our community. I’m very proud of our Monash Health team.

Andrew Stripp
