We have commenced changing the way we admit our planned and emergency patients to hospital in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
We now have clear screening processes through our three Screening Clinics and in our Emergency Departments. We have commenced separation of our inpatient COVID-19 and non-COVID-19 cohorts in dedicated wards.
These processes create clear distinctions between those patients who are suspected as having COVID-19 (Admission wards), patients who are confirmed as having COVID-19 (Management wards) and those without COVID-19 (Non-COVID wards).
We also have dedicated wards for immunocompromised patients at high-risk for COVID-19 disease.
Early implementation of these models at Monash Medical Centre Clayton (including Jessie MacPherson Private Hospital) and Dandenong Hospital has allowed us to refine and optimise our processes to prepare for anticipated increases in inpatient COVID-19 demand. Casey Hospital will Go Live with this revised inpatient model as COVID-19 demand increases at this site.’
It is important to note that within our bed-based sites we are tailoring our processes for other defined patient cohorts including surgical, maternity, neonatal, mental health and paediatric patients.
These changes maximise the safety of our staff and our patients in the context of this rapidly evolving COVID-19 environment.
