The completion of the Casey Hospital Expansion Project is a major milestone for the entire organisation.
With construction complete, we are recognising and celebrating the ways many teams from across Monash Health prepared, consulted, planned, and adapted to the major changes.
Patrick Lam, Assistant Deputy Director of Pharmacy at Casey Hospital
“We’ve been very pleased with the smooth transition from a pharmacy perspective.
We moved into a new larger pharmacy to support the expanded hospital services, which involved physically moving all of our stock, getting used to the new space, and establishing new workflows.
More beds meant a significant amount of medication and fluids needed to be properly labelled and stocked before the new wards could be opened.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we had to procure medications at a time when it was very difficult to do so, with medication supply affected across the country. That meant a lot of work to decide upon what initial stock we required and then to determine our ongoing supply requirements.
We worked alongside Andrew Perta, General Manager, and the People and Culture team to ensure we had the right workforce and to ensure we recruited progressively as new wards open. Our current recruitment drive is the largest I have ever been involved with, so the assistance of People and Culture has been very helpful.
Casey Hospital feels much more open and inviting, which can hopefully play a part in improving the patient experience. From a pharmacy perspective having a dedicated counselling room where patients can consult a pharmacist in a private setting is a major improvement.
Patient care will also be improved by the addition of a purpose-built aseptic manufacturing suite so that we can manufacture more medicines for our patients.”
