The theme for National Reconciliation Week 2020 is ‘In This Together’ – a concept that is essential as we work towards reconciliation and in the context of a global pandemic.
Reconciliation is a journey for all Australians – as individuals, families, communities, organisations and importantly as a nation. At the heart of this journey are relationships between the broader Australian community and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. We all have a responsibility to collectively build relationships and communities that value Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, histories, cultures, and futures.
Monash Health proudly launched our second Reconciliation Action Plan in February 2020, signifying our ongoing commitment to reconciliation. Monash Health has the largest catchment of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in Victoria, and we need to ensure the services we provide are culturally safe and welcoming.
This week we ask everyone to take the time to learn about our shared histories, cultures, and achievements, and to explore how each of us can contribute to achieving reconciliation in Australia. A great way to do this is by completing the new Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Cultural Awareness eLearning Package on Latte. This mandatory training package aims to increase our cultural awareness and ensure that we on our journey towards reconciliation together.
