Embedding the right EMR workflows is important for safe patient care

After introducing the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) across all our hospital sites, we are now focusing on ensuring the workflows are embedded as part of everyday care.

Documentation of clinical activities in the EMR is necessary to ensure safe and effective care is provided, so keeping the system up to date in realtime is of high importance.  We are reviewing key nursing, midwifery and medical EMR workflows and are aiming to improve on how you are using the system, so it is as efficient and complete as possible.

Our initial focus is on Venous Thromboembolism (VTE) Prophylaxis PathwayDischarge Summaries, Diagnosis/ Problems list and nursing Care Plans and critical documentation points.

Our aim is to develop and deliver a plan to improve the way we use our EMR, over the coming months across all of our sites.

This is a reminder that best practise use of the EMR is essential for high quality, safe patient care.
