Message from the Chief Executive
As restrictions ease, it is expected that some COVID-19 transmission will occur in pockets across Victoria. At Monash Health, we have robust processes and procedures in place and are prepared to respond rapidly to any cases should they occur.
During this time, as always, it is critical to make your safety and that of our patients your highest priority. To ensure you protect yourself and those around you, always adhere to our standard precautions for infection prevention. We have been reinforcing the importance of the personal protective equipment tiers and training, but please be reminded of the standard precautions that must be used in all instances of patient contact. Search ‘Standard Precautions’ on LATTE for the e-course module.
Standard Precautions are the minimum infection prevention practices that apply to all patient care, regardless of suspected or confirmed infection status of the patient.
Simply put, please remember:
- Hand hygiene.
- Use appropriate level of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) when droplet precautions are indicated, if there is any risk of exposure to body fluids, or if you are unsure.
- Always take a moment to risk-assess the situation before any patient contact.
- If you can’t assess the situation, it’s better to be prepared with PPE – “if in doubt, don’t go without”.
As always, I want to remind you of the importance of not attending work if you are unwell. If you have symptoms consistent with COVID-19, you must get tested and self-isolate. This approach is the same for us all, across any level of the organisation.
Thank you for your commitment to your safety and that of your colleagues and patients.
All managers are requested to share these updates with their teams and discuss at stand-ups and handovers. Please print a copy and display it in communication books and on employee noticeboards.
