Monash Health Central Production Kitchen wins the 2020 AIFST Allergen Bureau ‘Julie Newlands’ Award

Congratulations to Monash Health’s Central Production Kitchen for winning the 2020 Australian Institute of Food Science and Technology (AIFST) Allergen Bureau ‘Julie Newlands’ Award. This award aims to promote and raise awareness of best-practice food allergen management in Australia.

The Central Production Kitchen won the award over well-known suppliers including Gourmet Guardian, Woolworths and Mars Food Australia.  The selection committee acknowledged the team on their contribution to a consistent, science-based approach to food allergen risk assessment, management and communication. This approach assists allergen sensitive consumers in making informed choices based on label information and guides.

Julie Newlands was an inaugural Director and the first Honorary Treasurer of the Allergen Bureau Ltd. Julie was a food allergen advocate and immersed herself in all aspects of allergen science, management and communication. Everything Julie achieved at the Allergen Bureau is a testament to her drive and passion for the allergic consumer and food safety. Julie passed away in November 2017.
