Premier Daniel Andrews this week announced the suspension of elective surgeries, with the exception of category one and emergency surgery or procedural/interventional patients. This is in addition to the State Government’s existing directive issued 16 July to reduce all elective surgery to 50% capacity in metropolitan Melbourne and Mitchell Shire.
The suspensions will apply to public and private hospitals in Melbourne and the Mitchell Shire, which are under stage three restrictions.
This decision has been made to both free up hospital beds to care for patients with coronavirus, and to allow more Victorian health workers to go into aged care homes to support COVID-19 positive residents.
