COVID-19 fundraising appeal breaks records, passes $450,000

The Monash Health Foundation has broken previous community appeal records with its COVID-19 appeal.

In May and June this year the Monash Health Foundation ran an urgent appeal asking donors to support Monash Health research into treatments for people with COVID-19.

With the ongoing nature of the coronavirus pandemic, the Foundation elected to keep the appeal open and the efforts have now passed the $450,000 mark.

Ron Fairchild, Director of the Monash Health Foundation said that the result was outstanding.

This community appeal is the most successful in the Foundation’s history,” Ron said.

Some of the most gratifying aspects of the appeal were that we had a high average gift and a great number of first-time donors to Monash Health. In fact, 40 per cent of donors were new to Monash Health and they came from 92 suburbs.”

“The appeal result was a huge effort achieved by the community unifying – including Monash Health employees, patients and the general public.  We went out to a wide group of households with direct mail pieces and emailed our previous donors.  We also invested in advertising to raise the profile of Monash Health and the appeal,” Ron said.

“It’s wonderful to see communities coming together with such great support.  A stand out is the Cambodian community who, through the strong efforts of pharmacist Richard Lim, gave more than $40,000 towards Monash Health’s COVID-19 research endeavours. Thank you Richard!”

Ron added that Monash Health employees played an important role in the appeal.

“Special thanks to those employees who gave during the appeal and to the team of employees from across Monash Health who participated in creating the appeal collateral and advertisements.”
