Monash Medical Centre’s operating theatres will temporarily shut down between 9pm this coming Friday, and 9am on Sunday.
Elective cases have not been scheduled during this time, and any urgent surgical cases will be undertaken at Monash Children’s Hospital theatres.
Clinical leaders have led the planning for this significant shutdown alongside engineering and external contractors. Wards are being provided information about alternate transfer routes to MCH theatres during the shutdown.
We have notified Ambulance Victoria and the DHHS of a small number of critical specialties that Monash Medical Centre will not be able to accept during this time. Some may go to Dandenong Hospital or to another health service. Most critical cases, however, will continue to be treated at MCH.
This shutdown is part of the Electrical Infrastructure Upgrade project and will allow vital upgrade works. The project is progressing well and will deliver improved electrical systems and added safeguards for energy supply across the site.
Monash Health has enacted additional safety precautions for this project. No works are to be undertaken without the correct authorisation from clinical, engineering, and project teams.
The safety of our patients, visitors, employees and contractors is our top priority.
