Installation of speaker phones in single rooms

New speaker phones, which enable handsfree communication, will be installed in all our single rooms to enable safer communication between patients, their families and our clinicians.

Recently, we have trialled the use of speaker phones across some of our wardsWe have received positive feedback, with our nursing teams reporting that they have been invaluable in providing safe, timely care to our patients.

The phones have been trialled in COVID single rooms and have enabled the primary nurse inside the room and the PPE Coach outside the room to communicate through the phone handsfree. This has facilitated processes such as correct donning and doffing of PPE, in-room assessments, ‘inside room’ equipment checks and checks of vital signs.

They have also proved useful in monitoring how long the nurse has been in the room and have facilitated communication between the nurse in the room and the patient’s family.

We have purchased an additional 569 phones to be installed in all single rooms across our sites including Monash Medical Centre, Monash Children’s Hospital, Jessie McPherson Private Hospital, Dandenong, Casey, Moorabbin and Kingston.

The new phones have been configured by our IT team and site management at each site will coordinate distribution to the relevant wards.
