Earlier this month Monash Health’s Dr Joshua Abasszade recorded an important message for our social media channels to help us communicate with the Dari speakers in our community.
We have a proud multicultural community at Monash Health and throughout the COVID-19 pandemic it has been integral for us to make it easy for people from non-English-speaking backgrounds to find COVID-19 resources in languages that they can understand.
Joshua kindly offered to record a message in Dari to ensure that the members of the Afghan-Australian community are properly informed of COVID-19.
“Whilst working and translating in the gastroenterology unit at Dandenong Hospital, it became apparent to me that some people from culturally diverse backgrounds experience difficulties in fully understanding health messages in English” says Joshua.
“As a Monash Health doctor, I wish to promote healthcare, to not only the Afghan community, but all communities within our catchment.”
