NSW Cluster – Border closure and change to Red Zone definition

In response to growing case numbers in New South Wales, the Premier has announced that from 11.59pm Sunday 20 December, all of Greater Sydney (including the Northern Beaches) and the Central Coast will be considered a Red Zone.

The state border will be closed to Greater Sydney and Central Coast residents from 11:59pm Sunday 20 December.

Returning Victorians have until 11.59pm Monday 21 December to return and enter 14 days of home quarantine. After that point, they will be required to enter hotel quarantine.

Effective 11.59pm Sunday 20 December:

  • Those who have been in Greater Sydney (including the Northern Beaches) and the Central Coast, on or since 11 December, and arrive in Victoria after 11:59pm Sunday 20 December, must immediately get tested and self-isolate for 14 days from the date they left the region.

  • All patients and consumers who have been in Greater Sydney (including the Northern Beaches) and the Central Coast, on or since 11 December, must be managed in Tier 3 precautions and swabbed.

Additionally:

  • Those who were in the Northern Beaches region and related exposure sites between Friday 11 December and 20 December, and arrived in Victoria before 11.59pm Sunday 20 December, should immediately get tested and self-isolate for 14 days from the date they left the region.

  • Those who were in the rest of the Greater Sydney and NSW Central Coast region between Friday 11 December and 20 December, and arrived in Victoria before 11.59pm Sunday 20 December, should immediately get tested and isolate until a clear result is returned.

The rest of NSW remains a green zone. No further action is required for those returning from the region.
