This week we marked World Cancer Day and the theme this year was ‘Together, all our actions matter’ which focuses on what we can do as individuals and as a collective to work towards eliminating cancer.
At Monash Health, we provide comprehensive, multidisciplinary, state of the art care for all cancers. We also run one of the largest oncology clinical trial units in Australia.
Professor Eva Segelov, Monash Health’s Director of Oncology, says our clinical trials unit offers our patients involvement in trials from prevention to treatment along the various stages of cancer.
“Our clinical trials focus is on new treatments and combinations based on understanding the molecular features of the cancer.
“Our translational unit focus is on understanding how cancers change and mutate during treatment…using a ‘bedside to bench’ approach, we take information from the clinic to shape the questions for our scientists to focus on in the laboratory”
Professor Segelov says that all aspects of cancer from prevention to diagnosis and treatment, have undergone major advances in the past 10 years.
With more research, we hope to eliminate this disease in the not-too-distant-future.
