Monash Health Imaging commenced the Imaging Picture Archive Communication System (PACS) upgrade, including the online viewer Vue Motion, on Saturday, 17 April. This system is essential for storing patient diagnostic, interventional and therapeutic images and is the source for referring and treating physicians to view patient images both on and off-site.
Formerly a Carestream product, the Radiology application suite (Vue Motion, the Radiology Information System (RIS) and PACS) was recently acquired by Phillips Healthcare, strengthening the development and support behind the product, and this comes with a colour change. There will be no initial change to the Monash Imaging Viewer desktop icon, but the application does have a new look. Changes to the application are mainly cosmetic, with colours moving from Carestream orange to Phillips blue and, some buttons in the system will appear slightly different.
Monash Health Imaging users will have a new tool available later this week called Vue Explorer, which will assist in importing and exporting images. Monash Health Radiologists and Obstetricians will also receive an upgrade to their reporting application.
Overall, while there are seemingly no notable changes immediately, this PACS upgrade is placing Imaging and Monash Health in an excellent position for the coming years concerning expansion, system reliability and additions to system functionality. The increasingly demanding bulk of the work will come later in the year with an upgrade for the RIS.
